All Better

.... at least Mickey is feeling a little bit better. Her ears are better and she seems to be in a lot better spirits. Our sleep is getting more back to normal so let's hope we are going to have a better Feb than we did in Jan.

Did I tell you my little 2 year old is a social butterfly. We went to the dr and she was talking to everyone. She loves older kids.... And when a friend brought her 4 year old my little girl was so thrilled to be doing everything he was doing. She was just in awe. Hopefully she likes that he is a big kid and not starting to like older boys already! Oh please no!!!

Sick, Sick, Sick

This month has been a long, long month. It started the day after Christmas when I got sick. Then Mickey was sick, then Jeff was sick. UGH. Then last week Mickey just wasn't herself so off to the doctor we went. I LOVE our doctor. She is wonderful and always has been able to see us the day we call. So off we went and found out that Mickey had the beginnings of an ear infection and we started the antibiotics. Mickey did great the first few days on it. The last couple of days were more of a challenge. She sees the medicine coming and starts screaming "NO". But to her credit she finished it with a little wrestling from momma.

So I was hopeful that we were going to have a better week b/c we finished the antibiotics yesterday. NOT. Last night Mickey seemed to have picked up something else. She is having problems urinating. It is so hard to see your child in pain and not be able to just kiss it and make it all better.

This morning I am waiting. Waiting for our appointment with our doctor. I got about 4 hours of sleep last night and just plain exhausted. I wish that I could crawl back into my bed and catch some well needed z's. Let's see what today holds for us and see what the doctor thinks is going on. I am also waiting for my little girl to start feeling better.

Thanks for "listening" to this momma.

Park Days

One of the things that we love to do is go to the park. Jeff and Mickey love to go down the slides. Mickey has learned to sit on the swing and hold on while she is being pushed. Boy she is growing up.

Last summer Mickey and I went to the aquarium. So when on Mickey's birthday when we were with daddy, we went again. This time Daddy got some pretty neat shots of the fish. He is a lot better with the camera than I am (I think). Mickey loves any type of animals. It is fun to see her interest coming out, she can't seem to get enough of the animals that she sees. So fish is a natural extension of that. That day she got to see sharks and sting rays. She had a blast. As did momma and daddy.

A Fundraiser by a couple of friends of mine....

Just thought I would post this so I can pass this along. Have a great day!

The week of February 7 through February 14, 2008 is recognized as Congenital Heart Defect (CHD) Awareness Week. In honor of this special recognition, Helping Hands Healing Hearts is holding a very important fundraiser in conjunction with Avon during the next two weeks. Valerie Nadeau, a Rhode Island Avon representative, has joined forces with us and presented us with an opportunity that we could not refuse.

If you visit Valerie’s Avon website ( in the next two weeks and purchase some of their wonderful products, you will help us to again reach out to other heart families. Valerie is going to give Helping Hands Healing Hearts 40% of the proceeds from the purchases made in our name. This is incredibly generous and very exciting.

As a group, we will use those proceeds to do two things. We will use 10% of the proceeds to reach other heart families through brochures, mailings, etc. The remaining 90% of the proceeds will be used to make a donation to Children’s Hospital Boston. Our hope is that we will receive enough money to purchase a CHD Awareness Bear for every heart patient at Children’s Hospital Boston. We will then deliver the bears on February 14th, Valentine’s Day.

We hope that you will help us in our mission to continue to reach out to other heart families as they face this difficult journey. This fundraiser will only be successful with the continued support of our family and friends. Thank you for your generosity!

All orders must be placed by January 26, 2008.

Since our group is not a registered non-profit organization, it is important to note that any purchase you make through Avon will not count as a tax deduction.

**Help Us Spread the Word!**
1. If you have a carepage or website of your own, please feel free to cut and paste this post and help us raise money.
2. Be sure to email and/or call your friends and family and let them know how they can help raise money through this fundraiser.

Thanks again!

Toddler and a Dog

Toddler and dogs are not always compatible. Take for instance Mickey and my grandmother dog, who you can see below. Mickey just loved this dog. The dog did not return the love! He was actually terrified of this little person. One drawback of Mickey having such a great relationship with our two dogs is that she thinks all dogs want her love and attention. We didn't let her close to him on her own, because we just were not sure what would happen, and we didn't want her to get a "Love Bite".

We have started a new tradition, lighting luminarias. This is something I remember about my Grandfather lighting up the backyard with this paper bag Christmas lights. I think that they are just beautiful. Mickey is old enough to help out her daddy with the lighting of the Luminarias on Christmas Eve!

She took over the flashlight duty and seemed to really like the new found responsibility!

Doesn't she just remind you of a curious little girl? She is always right there trying to figure out what is going on in the world.

And here is a really bad picture I took of our lit luminarias. I didn't have a tripod to get the full effect of our house. But I sure did like it!!!

Birthday Photos

I can't believe that we are already into the new year and I haven't posted birthday pictures. So I thought I get on that right away. Hope you enjoy them.

We were at my Grandma's house for her 2nd birthday. Everyone decided to sing Happy Birthday to her. She wasn't quite sure what to think of all the attention!
She got into opening gifts and seeing what was in them... she got some pretty neat stuff. Here is a picture of her with her new baby and new drum set.

She missed out on cake on her actual birthday. There was just so much going on that she got a little overtired and we retired early that day. But when we got home we did the birthday cake and blowing out the candles. Doesn't she look like she is trying hard to blow out that candle??? Oh and we didn't tell her to blow them out she just decided to do it. How do they know these things? I had taught her to blow on her food when it is hot, I guess that is where the connection was made??

And best of all she got to enjoy some cake!!
