Spring is Here

We been having beautiful spring weather (apart from the wind). My mom (Grammie Syl) always planted a garden when I was a child. I remember lots of lovely and beautiful flowers and yummy vegetables. I have wanted to do the same for Mickey. To teach her how plant and take care of a garden.

We made our first few steps in making that dream a reality. Jeff made me a planter and filled it with good soil. Last week we made a trip to Lowes and found some seeds and a started kit. We came home and started our garden. Mickey was also able to pick up her very own flower.

We have put our seeds in the started kit. We have watched them begin to sprout. Soon we will be able to put them in the ground outside and take care to watch our flowers and few veggies and herbs grow.

Being a parent is one of my greatest joys in life. It is also extremely exhausting and humbling experience. I have heard it said many times over that "I was a better parent before I had kids!". I can so relate to this quote. It seems I "knew" what I would do in a given situation before I have actually encounter it.

The tender age of two has also brought with it the ills of pinching, biting and hitting. My dear sweet girl has decided to experiment with those ills far too often and I have to admit that it is beginning to wear on my very last nerve. I have heard many solutions to this problem, however I have not been able to solve it on my own.

I have read some of the following:

1. bite/pinch the child back
2. Have them bite some soap
3. Whatever you do don't bite/pinch the child back.
4. Look for the core of the problem and solve it that way.

All I can tell you is that I am exhausted and tired of being pinched/bit at every turn. I do believe that it has something to do with her being on antibiotics and just plain not feeling bad. I am unsure if she is trying to get those molars in (I never know when she is actually teething). It seems as when she is on antibiotics her mood and disposition seems to change. And we are on a longer dose of them.

So in this leg of my journey of parenthood, I am completely exhausted and at my wits end. Unsure of what I should do that would teach my child that biting, pinching and hitting is not what we do.

Singing Mickey

I have told you all before that Mickey LOVES to sing. I finally got some video of her singing and was able to figure out how to get it on here. I am still looking for a easier way to do video if any of you have any suggestions feel free to let me know. I use to use a program on my computer but my new one doesn't have it, so I am in the learning curve once again.

Mickey is singing "moon, moon, moon" by Laurie Berkner.

Moon, moon, moon
Shining bright
Moon, moon, moon
My night light
(turning it on, click)

Moon, moon, moon
i can see
moon, moon, moon
your taking care of me

Look up it's the moon
look up it's the moon
look up it's the moon
it's up in the sky
It's big and round
and i have found
that it looks just like a pizza pie

Edited to add: I also put on the same video (below) using a different source. Let me know which one you like better.

Easter Weekend

We had a good Easter weekend, although at times not what we expected.

On Saturday, we went to the park to hunt Easter eggs. My goodness that was an experience! There were too many people that it didn't make it a very enjoyable trip. That day, I started getting sick, as I hoped that it would soon pass. It did for a time being...

Mickey did not do well during the night. So we decided not to go church, as we had friends coming over for dinner. Mickey was not feeling well but we had a great time with our friends.

Sunday night, Mickey started running a fever that last most of the night. So the next morning we headed off to the doctor. We found out that Mickey has an ear infection. Late Monday night I started not feeling well again.

We had a great visit with Grandma Chick a dee as Mickey is not calling her, but will write about that more once I am feeling better. Just thought I should offer an explanation as to why I haven't written sooner.

Have a great day!

Easter Eggs

On Monday, we invited our friends, Katie & Nicholas over to dye Easter Eggs. Katie and i were not sure how doing coloring Easter Eggs with 2, two year olds was going to turn out. Especially with two year olds that have a love/hate relationship. So we were pleasantly surprised when coloring eggs went so well. Afterwards our little one played quite well together. This is a shock since when they first arrived all Mickey and Nicholas were not necessarily seeing eye to eye. After the eggs they learned that they could actually share and play together. They are coming back over for Easter so let's see how things go! I will be sure to let you know. :)

Something funny to share...

Just thought I would share this with you. It just brought a smile to my face. With all that I tell Mickey on a given day, with more yet to come I am sure.

Oh the joys of potty training....

We have made some progress in the arena of potty training. Not as fast as the momma who has to change all the diapers would like, but we are making progress nonetheless. We have moved on from the stage 1 -- being to scared of the potty to even sit on it. Yay!

We are currently in the midst of stage 2 -- Can't stand to be wet or dirty so instead of going to the potty I will just take the diaper off and leave it somewhere. She will tell me sometimes, "diaper change". But not as often as I would like, but hey we are still moving forward. I don't fully understand why she has more desire to tell me she has to go to the potty or change her diaper when we are in bed getting ready to sleep. Actually I do, it is an attempt to delay the going to sleep process for as long as possible. These little ones are too smart for their own good sometimes.

We had a great success this morning. She woke up and told me that she had to go potty. I wasn't real hopeful since we have been sitting on the potty without actually going. But on to the bathroom we went. She promptly went pee and then looked in her potty and declared "wowie!". She got a stamp of a duck on her hand and tummy and she was just excited!

Hope you enjoyed the pictures from one of potty experiences a few days ago. Don't worry nothing was in the potty when she was looking in it.

Cowboy Days

As promised I will tell you about our fun outing on Sunday. We went to Cowboy Days at the Farm and Ranch museum. Funny thing is, I don't think that I ever knew that this place existed. So I was pleasantly surprised to find all the animals that they had for us to see. I think that one of my favorite parts was watching the "working dog" work the sheep. It was amazing to me how they do their jobs and want to work.

We also so long horn cattle up close, I never how huge these guys were. We went to the day to have a pony ride for Mickey, however, the pony was huge so we settled for a stagecoach ride. Mickey really enjoyed this, especially since we had just watched the Backyardigans episode where Pablo got to ride in a stagecoach on his way to catch a butterfly. So she was thrilled.

Overall we had a great day. Mickey has been talking about the cows and the horses ever since.

Hope you enjoy the pictures from out outing...

Time Changes, WHY??

After last night and today's nap, I officially hate time changes. Maybe it was because this one crept up on me and caught me by surprise. I mean didn't we just change our clocks a little while ago?? And then I read in news that daylight savings time doesn't really save energy or gives us extra sunshine. So why do we do it??

I say that I should revolt and be like AZ who doesn't change their clocks forwards or backwards. I mean they are only 3 to 4 hour drive from me, I can be like them?

Bedtime and nap time were horrible. Screaming, crying and overall plain unhappiness from an overtired tot. She is asleep now, reaming of horses I suppose. She is whispering in her sleep talking "horses, horses". Maybe that is because of cowboy days, but I will share that with you tomorrow.

Grammie Rose

Last Saturday was my grandmother's birthday. I won't tell her age, since as far as I know she is still 29 years old. :)

Mickey is named for her. One of her middle names is Rose. When deciding to name Mickey I wanted to honor someone in my family that was special to me and decided that to be my grandmother.

I love her. She is an incredibly hard working woman who raised 4 children who I also admire. We were close even when I was a little girl. I remember her coming to visit us (we always lived away from her), and I would go into her room as everyone was asleep and we would lie in bed talking away. My grandfather was asleep snoring away as we talked the night away.

My grandmother would also give me her advice on how to live my life. My most heard advice was "don't let any man stop you from getting your education". She values education even though she was unable to continue hers. Her father died when she was a young girl (I think just barely a teenager) so her responsibilities went to taking care of her family. I know that she gave her advice to the boys in my family but I don't think it was the same that she gave to her eldest granddaughter.

We have not always seen eye to eye. And sometimes have grown angry with one another. I think that our relationship is better for it. We respect each other and don't stay angry with one another. Which for that I am thankful.

After my dearly loved grandfather passed away in 94' we spent lots of time looking at pictures. Those are probably my most treasured times with her. I learned so much about family history and where I came from. I learned about her early relationship with my grandfather how they became married. I needed to hear those stories almost as much as she needed to tell them.

I hope Mickey learns to be as strong and as kind as her great grandmother.

1st picture of my grandmother when my mom was in high school.
2nd picture my great grandmother (Gramma Chole) Grammie Rose, Grammie Syl (My mom) and me.
3rd picture Grammie Rose, Grammie Syl and Mickey when she was 3 months old.

I like to cancel please

I am sitting me here listening to Jeff try to cancel our lingo service. It is actually quite hilarious.

First let me give you some background information. Lingo is a phone service that is through the internet (or something like that). We don't use it and so we decided to cancel. So a few months ago Jeff calls and he downgraded our service so we can receive calls and can dial 911. Fine, but we still we were not using it. So he called today to try to get them to cancel....

He tried 6 different times, on the phone, in writing just trying to get them to cancel. Nada, it didn't work. He was given the run around, saying you have to do cancel online, you can't cancel over the phone, writing isn't good enough you will need to call us so we can cancel. So he tries one last (or so we thought) tonight. Here is the conversation:

Jeff: My number is ----- I would like to cancel.
Miguel: (Lingo guy) You are within the 10 days of being billed so you will be charged anyway for this month.
Jeff: Even though I am not using the service you will still charge me??
Miguel: Yes,
Jeff: Can you go ahead and cancel my service?

Miguel: yes but we will charge you

(Talk about charging without service)

Miguel: I can give you a free month
Jeff: But I don't use the service
Miguel: Yes, but I can give you a free month
Jeff: So you can give me a free month and I can cancel anytime during this month and not be charged?
Miguel: Yes..

Jeff: So I can hang up and call you right back and cancel?
Miguel: Yes

So he hangs up and calls back in 5 minutes

Jeff: Hello I would like to cancel my service, did I just talk to you?
Miguel: Yes,
Jeff: Guess what I would like to do?
Miguel: I was hoping you wouldn't call it will hurt my stats
Jeff: So do you want me to hang up and call tomorrow
Miguel: No
Jeff: So i would like to cancel.

Ugh... it is finally done. We are free of lingo. Yay!

Friendly Competition

Jeff and I are pretty competitive with each other. So when I challenged him to a game of Scrabulous we were up for the challenge. Let me just say from the start of this that Jeff is by far the better speller and knows far more words than I do. He has always been a step or two ahead of me! And I am okay with that. Until we started our friendly game...... We were playing our games and he would beat me and beat me and beat me. Oh I was getting frustrated. Then it happened, I won one. Boy did that feel good. Then I got on a winning streak. Then Jeff was getting frustrated and low and behold he won one. I would venture to say now that we are both even competitors and we are having a fun time with our new outlet to compete.

PS Thank you to Elena, Jessy & Dara for playing with me and introducing me to this game!
