This picture is of my little brother, David. It is one of my favorites of when we were kids. Just had to share it as I have been looking at old pictures lately.

Anyway, on to the big announcement. My brother has been preparing to defend his dissertation for awhile now. This morning was the time to put all his hard work to the test and it paid off. He passed his dissertation.

I am so proud of him. He has always been smart and sometimes too smart for his own good. I think back to his high school days when I was wondering if he was ever going to graduate. Not because he wasn't smart enough but because he got bored with the whole thing. He has set a goal and he has reached it. He has put a lot of hard work into getting to this stage in life. Especially when there were times when there were naysayers out there who were not his supporters. His road has not been an easy one but he has traveled it and has accomplished his goal.

Now I don't know when he will be officially a Ph.D, but he is already Dr. Dave in my book. How strange is it to see the little brother that you remember being born now called Dr. Dave? He has begun his year of being an intern and is on a new adventure. Who knows what the future has in store for him, but I know that he can accomplish anything that he sets his mind to do.

So Congratulations little brother. This big sis is very proud of you!

Tag Your It!

I was tagged from Stephanie's blog and decided to actually give this a try....

What is his name? Jeff

How long have we been married? 7 1/2 years

How long did we date? Date?? I guess if you count our engagement we "dated" 10 months. We knew each other and great friends 7 years before that.

Who eats more? He does.

Who said I love you first? Jeff

Who is taller? Jeff

Who sings better? Mickey does! Okay, not sure which one of us sings better since neither of us are very good. But I definitely sing more, if that counts.

Who is smarter? I think that we are both smart, just have to ask about a specific subject and see who is smarter.

Whose temper is worse? probably mine.

Who pays the bills? Jeff

Who does the Laundry? We both do. I stay away from his dress clothes as they scare me. He stays away from my clothes for the same reason. We will both do other laundry when we see it needs to be done.

Who cooks dinner? I probably cook on a more regular basis than he does. But he will often get into the kitchen on his days off or if I have had an unusually long day and he wants to eat. He cooked a lot while I was pregnant as smells did me in. But I think that our favorite thing to do is to cook together. It is a family affair!

Who drives when together? Jeff does. He likes to drive.

Who is more stubborn? He is of course. No we are both pretty stubborn which makes for a very stubborn child.

Who is first to admit when wrong? Jeff

Who wears the pants in the family? Jeff wears pants and shorts.... I think that he would look pretty silly in a dress, now don't you think? I wear pants, shorts and dresses and of course Mickey is only wearing dresses these days. that is what you really wanted to know, isn't it? ;)

Who mows the lawn? What lawn? When we had one Jeff did.

Who kissed who first? He kissed me

Who asked who out first? hmmm... I will say Jeff did... but we never Officially went out.

Who proposed? Jeff

What is my favorite thing about him? That he is my best friend, that he is a great daddy, and how much he loves his family. He is honest and is a giver. I could go on and on about what I love about him, but I guess I should stop here.

So I tag those that read my blog & has a blog. Especially Cheryl and Elena! :)

Fishing Trip 08'

Last weekend we went on a fishing trip with my dad. I should say we went on a lake trip because I am not sure that any actually fishing went on. Mickey did a lot of "fishing" in the grass with her new found love her Dora fishing pole. She has a fake fish tied to the end of it and she calls it "fishing for a real fish". She is also telling the fish "don't worry I'll get you". I don't think that she yet understands what fishing really means. I am not going to tell her anytime soon. Enjoy the pics!

Childhood Memories

When I was six years old my family moved to Arizona. During that move I became friends with Teddy. Teddy and I became quick friends knowing the simple language of childhood. We would spend hours on my swing set and playing simple games that would only entertain youngsters. Never did it occur to me that he should have been different because he was a lot older than me. I think that he was probably 13 or maybe a little older and he had Down Syndrome. It didn't matter, what mattered was he was my friend.

I moved from there when I was 8. What I took with me was a deep love for people that had Down Syndrome. I also took with me a deep respect for the parents that love and honor their children, even if society doesn't always do the same.

Yesterday I watched a slide show from one of the ladies that I see on the Photography for families. I have seen the picture of her child and his eyes that just shine with joy many times. When I watched the slide show I had tears running down my face. So I asked her if I could share it with you, and she said yes. She has a photography blog that you might like to visit to read more about her beautiful son, see her amazing pictures. Click here to visit... I have also learned that October is Down Syndrome awareness month.

One of our weekly activities is to go to the local gym for open gym time. It is a great place for Mickey to let off some energy and to use that part of her personality who loves adventure.

We have also been watching the Olympics and more specifically some of the womens gymnastics events. So my little tumblebug is on the floor doing somersaults and when she stands back up she puts her arms in the air and smiles really big. She is a gymnast in the making. Right now I am just happy that she is enjoying herself!

Thank You Grammie Syl!!!!!!

Grammie Syl brought a wonderful gift for Mickey during a visit last month, "Bouncing Tigger". This toy has received a lot of attention from our Tigger loving toddler. She just loves to make him bounce and of course to bounce right along side of him. It is rather fun to watch. Sometimes I wish that I could push the mute button, but it provides a lot of entertainment and gives me some down time.

Tigger is Mickey's favorite "Winnie the Pooh" character. The funny thing is, it is also her Uncle Dave's favorite character. I remember lots of road trips where my brother and sometimes his friends would sing the Tigger song, the "Wonderful thing about Tiggers". Now I am hearing it over and over in my life! Enjoy the video!

Last Week

It is nice to have friends. Last week we had Katie, Nicholas and Baby Daniel over. Mickey was sure excited to have "Baby Daniel" over. She was so excited, because she just loves babies!

Mickey and Nicholas had a blast playing and making a mess. At one point Nicholas found the "spare" Sparky's and got to carry one around for awhile. Katie got to eat a meal that was cooked for her and someone to hold the baby while she ate. So all in all we had a great night.

The next morning Mickey woke up and asked for "Katie, Nicholas and Baby Jesus". I think that she got a tad bit confused about the Baby Jesus we were reading about and the one that came over!

If you noticed I wasn't posting last week. Reason?? Some sort of stomach bug got me good. So I was taking it slow and just plain wasn't doing a whole lot. I am feeling better though.

Arts Cow

Last week I received my first order from a new photo company. I was curious how they were going to turn out and I was pleased with the outcome. They are offering an introductory offer that I think that you would like to take advantage of. They are offering 400 free photo prints, 200 of that is for their 4x6 and the other 200 are of 5x7. They break it up so you get 50 prints a month. They also offer other freebies once you are in such as free 8x10's and 12x18's.

So in case you are interested in this offer here is the link....

I am always up for a good deal and a good deal on photos is even better. I am in the process of updating Mickey's photo albums and needed a good deal to come across my path. You do pay for shipping but the cost isn't bad. So in the end it was worth it to me.

My Girly Girl

My little girl has really turned into a girly girl in the last few days. She got a very special prize when she went to Chuck E. Cheese, a fancy pair of earrings. When she first had them on she would barely move her head or even smile for fear they would fall right off. But since then she has gotten quite comfortable while wearing them. When she first saw them in the mirror she said... "Grammie Syl", she was now just like her Grammie!

She has become quite the "girly girl" lately. She has one her earrings and has even been wearing dresses around the house and when we go out. Amazing! She tells me that she has her "pretty dress on" or her "princess dress" on. I am not sure where she got the whole princess thing since we don't watch princess stuff. But she is liking it and I am not rocking the boat. I am enjoying seeing her in the dresses that I have bought and maybe seen her in them one time, if that.

She also found the dress she wore when she was a year. She has insisted that she wear it. It doesn't close in the back, but she doesn't care, so I let her wear it. My how she has grown since 1 year!
