Sleeping Beauty

One of the greatest joys is to watch your baby sleep, or at least that has been one of mine. Since Mickey was just a few days old she loved to sleep with her arms raised up. We thought it was cute then and find it cute now when we see her sleeping like this now at the ripe old age of 3 1/2. :o) Jeff was able to get a shot of our little sleeping beauty this morning that reminded us of those few precious days when she was our newborn.

Ice Cream

On Sunday we headed out to an ice cream social. When we headed out to this event we had assumed that we were going to taste some homemade ice cream and enjoy some kid fun. We also assumed that we would be inside since it is currently over 100 degrees in our neck of the woods. We assumed wrong....

We get to the social event and learn that we can try out hand at making ice cream in a tin can. Great! This sounds like fun. Mickey was very curious and attentive at watching the ingredients go into the tin can. We go outside and roll our tin can for 25 minutes. What we got was more of a ice cream slush. I think that the 105 degree day was not helping in our quest for ice cream. We did find out that they were serving ice cream inside but everytime we went indoors it was gone. We did manage to get a ice cream sandwich. But not really want we had in mind. I am glad that we had the experience at making our ice the old fashioned way, but think that when we see this event listed next summer we will just go out for some ice cream instead. ;)

Momma's Little Helper

We have been eating a lot of corn this summer. I have found that Mickey loves to help get the corn ready. She loves to be in the kitchen and helping. The only thing that I have to watch for is that she doesn't take a bite of every cob of corn that she helps gets ready.

JK Wedding Entrance

On of my friends posted this link on their facebook page. I have no idea who these people are but I loved their creative entrance before they got married. This really set the tone for a celebration which weddings are supposed to be. Although I don't think that I could have pulled off doing something like this I enjoyed it. :)

What is that??

I don't know if I shared that at the beginning of my gardening experience this summer I wasn't very successful. Things just were not going the way that I wanted or needed them to go. I would go and I would see some of those plants dying. And those seeds that I planted?? No where to be seen. It was a rough start.

So after I finally being successful in our venture as gardener. I noticed a plant coming up. At first I thought that they were radishes. Then after awhile I realized that no those can't be radishes. It became a guessing game, especially since I had long since forgotten what I had attempted to plant and where I made the attempt. Embarrassing as I hide my head in shame.

So then the game began as we made guesses on what this plant could possibly be. We started guessing anything that we knew that would grow on a vine. Our guess was cantaloupe. Then on Saturday we found out what we were growing. Cucumber. At that point I remember planting them.

Tonight I cut up our cucumber and put it on Mickey's plate. She said it was slimy and she turned her nose up at it. I left it on her plate and she ate it all up. Never changing her opinion openly about it.

My Flower Princess

I am not that handy when it comes to sewing. It was one of those things that I took for granted that my mom did well and I never learned from her. A few years back I invested in a sewing machine in hopes that I would be able to make my child's clothes (a few for me) like my mom did. This was a few years before I was even pregnant with Mickey. I quickly realized that sewing is hard at least for someone who is mostly self taught. So I take my sewing machine out every once in awhile thinking that I can do something.

Back in April, Mickey and I went into Hobby Lobby. She saw a dress that was hanging to get mother's to make such a dress for their child. My child fell in love with the dress. I wasn't convinced and so left the store without the dress or the materials to make it. Fast forward to a few weeks ago when we again went into Hobby Lobby and the same dress is still hanging up. My daughter is still in love with this dress. So I decided to go outside of my comfort zone and buy the materials to make this dress. Thinking that i have the skills to do this.

I have been putting off making the dress because deep down I know that it will be an adventure. Yesterday, Mickey woke up asking to make this dress. So I decided that I needed to go ahead and attempt it. I have never seen this girl so patient. She was right there as I cut out the pattern and the fabric. She "helped" me put the dress together. When she went to bed last night I was stuck. I just didn't know how to finish this dress. But I took a break and let my brain work it out. I went back and finished the dress.

My little girl woke up this morning asking about the dress. I told her that I had finished it. She was so excited. She gushed and was very dramatic in her love for her dress. She immediately put it on and declared herself a flower princess. I am thankful that I persevered and completed the dress. The glimmer in her eyes and impromptu hug was all the thanks that I needed and to know that it was all worth it.

We have finally seen success in our garden. That has been a exciting adventure. Mickey and I share a love of broccoli. She will gladly eat this veggie whenever we have it. So when she has seen broccoli growing in our garden she has become excited. Today we were able to pick our first florets. Yummy, can't wait to cook it and eat it for dinner. Having a garden has been an adventure and has given Mickey the ability to try new veggies which is always a good thing for our particular eater. Where she can love something one day and hate it the next.

My Girly Girl

If I was in doubt about the girly-ness of my little girl all doubt has been erased. Last week when we went to my mom's for the weekend we made a visit to my hairdresser John. Who I have known and trusted since I was 16. I decided I needed some guidance with Mickey's hair and so I made an appointment. We told Mickey that we were going to see John so he can help make her hair "princess". That did it. She was on cloud nine and enjoyed every moment in the chair with John. Her hair was cut and styled and she LOVED IT!

This last weekend Jeff and I took her to the mall and got Mickey's ear pierced. Or as Mickey puts it "She got holes in her ears". I didn't know when I would venture out and get Mickey's ear pierced and always knew it was going to be her decision. A couple of months back we were in a store just browsing and she wanted some earrings. I made a statement that when she was four she could get holes in her ears. She remembered this and kept asking when she would be four. As time went on she would put her fake earrings on which would fall off all the time, she would put her "pretend earrings" on which okay for a time but they were not the real thing. Everyday we would have the conversation about what it meant to get holes in her ears and how it would feel and when she would be ready.

A couple of weeks ago we were in the mall so I took her to the place that does earrings. We saw what would happen and again we talked about it. So Sunday we talked about it some more and we asked her if she wanted to get earrings before she was four. She said she was scared and no she didn't. We went to the mall and went to the store because we were there. I sat her up on the seat and we discussed the process. She picked out some earrings that she liked (LOVED) and all of sudden she was ready!

And she was a trooper. Thankfully they had 2 ladies working that day and so they did both her ears at the same time. They pierced her ears and she said "Ow, that hurt, THAT HURT" and then she was done. No crying. I was surprised.

She has been saying since then, "I am so happy, I have earrings!!" She is my girly girl! Gotta love her!

Happy Birthday Uncle Dave

Happy Birthday to my little brother Dave. We were able to call him yesterday and Mickey was able to sing Happy Birthday. She loves her Uncle Dave and pretends to call him at least once a day if not a 100 times during the day. So I think that it was special for him and for her to spend a few minutes on the phone with each other.

I wanted to share a few pictures with you from our younger days. :) Hope you enjoy them.

We had just moved to AZ where we realized it was hot, hot, hot.

Enjoying some ice cream in the hot AZ weather!

Us in a tire of a big truck that works out in the mine.

Don't we look like we are such loving siblings??
I can't believe that he grew up and now has his PhD! How did my baby brother manage to do that?! I am proud of you little brother and love you.

Mickey also wanted to say Happy Birthday and wanted to share a fav pic that she has. ;)
